May 29, 2007 Special Council Mtg. Minutes
The Village of Evendale
Special Council Meeting
May 29, 2007

The Village of Evendale held a Special Council Meeting at 6:00 pm on May 29, 2007. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Don Apking. Upon roll call, the following members were present:  Mr. Chris Schaefer, Mrs. Carolyn Smiley-Robertson, Mr. Jeff Albrinck, Mr. Bill Puthoff, Jr., and Mr. Stiney Vonderhaar. Mr. Doug Lohmeier was absent and excused. Also present was Assistant to the Mayor, Jack Cameron; Planning Commission member, Dick Shaffer and Village Clerk, Michelle Ficke.

Bob Richardson presented designs for new street signs for the Village. Marcia Short, Graphic Designer, was also presenting. Together they designed the new signage for the City of Cincinnati. Their goal for the Village of Evendale was to design a sign that was easier to read, visible at night, easy to maintain and a combination of stop signs and street signs. The combination signs would be approximately nine feet in the residential areas and twelve feet on Reading Road, much higher than current signs. They have worked with Meyer Sign Company, Holthaus Sign Company and United Sign Company in the past.

After viewing and discussing four different design recommendations it was decided that Bob Richardson and Marcia Short would come back at the June 14th Council Meeting with composites of signs that include the following elements: 1) a four inch fluted pole as presented in Designs “A”; 2) a finial top; 3) Blade design as on Design “D” presented that had upper and lower case lettering with the street name one side of the pole and a distinguishing characteristic on the opposite side, for example a block of green color or a logo. A sunflower in this space was suggested as a distinguishing element, however, it was questioned whether or not we wanted Evendale identified by sunflowers.; and 4) different colors of blades with black blade and white lettering included in the options. An estimate of pricing for each of the four designs was also distributed to Council.

Other Items:

Mayor Apking said that we are replacing light poles on the ends of the islands along Reading and Glendale-Milford Roads on a regular basis. He suggested moving the poles to the inside of the islands rather than the ends to avoid continual replacement of the light poles. This was considered to be a good idea by Mr. Albrinck. Mayor Apking also suggested replacing light poles in subdivisions where underground utilities are and making them uniform with the street sign design when finalized. It was agreed that they should be uniform in design.

There being no further business to come before council, Mayor Apking asked for a motion to adjourn. A motion to adjourn was made by Mr. Schaefer, seconded by Mr. Vonderhaar and unanimously approved. Council adjourned at 7:30 pm.
